Tuesdays With Dorie – Sour Cream Chocolate Cake Cookies

It seems like there’s one too many words in that cookie’s name, but that’s what it is. It’s a cake cookie, not a cookie cake. Dorie indicates that it is a “cake cookie” because it has a light crumb to it. The texture is not dissimilar to the really good, fluffy sugar cookies that we would always get from an Amish market.bakery called Weaver’s that we’d occasionally visit (sorry, no web link, they’re Amish).

While it doesn’t look that way, the chocolate is understated (unsweetened cocoa and unsweetened chocolate are used in the recipe, and then accentuated by brown and white sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins. The raisins and chocolate pairing has never been my thing, but it works here because the chocolate is very light.

I really loved these, and it was a struggle to stop eating them. I’m glad – I needed a victory, because the last couple weeks weren’t all that great by my standards.

  1. Mine were puffier than yours. I think they were plain as is, so I made sandwich cookies with cinnamon filling, which ended up being highly addictive.

  2. Wow they look great Mike..I had to pass on this due to not wanting to heat the kitchen up:)

  3. Yay, victory!
