Tuesdays With Dorie – Caramel Pot De Creme

Posted in food on May 31, 2011 by hoagiefest 2020

Pot De Creme is French for “Pot of cream.” FYI.

These are really good. I learned my lesson from the previous pots de creme and I did not use the plastic wrap in the oven. I’m not sure if they are the way they are meant to be since I don’t have a plastic-wrapped example, but they are really darned good.

It’s good to be back, by the by. Expect a rebaking of last week’s recipe soon to make up for my mistakes.

Tuesdays With Dorie – Oooooooops! Toasted Almond Scones

Posted in food on May 24, 2011 by hoagiefest 2020

Okay, so I was careless and made the wrong recipe. Some time I will bake and post about the correct scones. For now, I’m on my honeymoon and without the proper facilities to amend this.

These scones were tasty, but definitely something I would need to be in the right mood to eat (i.e. these scones have no real sugar content, so why eat them regularly?)

I’ll see you all for real next week, as I’ll be back from my honeymoon! Please read my previous post for all the information on my adventure baking the cupcakes for my wedding!

Tuesdays With Dorie – Maple Cornmeal Biscuits

Posted in food on May 17, 2011 by hoagiefest 2020

Currently, I’m on my honeymoon. I’m wrapping things up in Myrtle Beach and about to head down to Orlando, FL for a Disney vacation.

However, I haven’t missed a recipe since I started TWD, and I’m not about to let a little marriage stop me! I made this in the distant past. The biscuits were delicious. Everyone at work scarfed them up.

If you haven’t, please read my post about the cupcakes I made for my wedding

Hi gang. Just wanted to let you all know that I am now married. I undertook the mammoth task of baking the cupcakes for my reception. These are white chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Special thanks to the matron of honor, Rachel’s sister Ashlee, for creating the top “cupcake” and the white-chocolate hearts which were used as decoration.

There was a near-disaster; shortly after the pastor’s blessing, I noticed that the front-heavy cupcake stand was collapsing in on itself. While we were flopping cupcakes off the thing and bracing it with our hands, cooler heads fetched plastic cups from the bar to brace the display; the cupcakes were replaced, the display held for the rest of the ceremony, and most of the people were none-the-wiser about the whole thing.

Rachel made a candy buffet, and it was also a huge hit – very little candy to take home at the end of the night. We had a good time, caught up with 115 good friends and family members, and did a lot of dancing.

It is 1:41am on Monday morning. We’re leaving on our honeymoon in a little over three hours. I’ll be gone for two weeks, but the Tuesdays With Dorie train will keep rolling, with posts appearing on their appropriate days. I just finished baking the almond scones at midnight. Next up: Disney World!

Tuesdays With Dorie – Brown Sugar Bundt Cake

Posted in food on May 10, 2011 by hoagiefest 2020

Another late night, and another cake that doesn’t quite unmold itself from the pan cleanly. Even with a knife coming out clean, this cake cooked a bit too gooey for me and a lot of it stuck to the pan. Maybe I bought some juicy pears. Maybe it’s the heat. Maybe it’s the humidity.

Here’s a picture.

Bake-a-thon is coming up soon. Pray for ol’ Mike.

Tuesdays With Dorie – Marbled Loaf Cake

Few words. Late night. Tired.

Tiniest bit too dark on the outside, which led to a bit too dry on the inside. Still tasted all right.
