Tuesdays With Dorie – Low and Lush Chocolate Cheesecake

Posted in food on December 29, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

Just pretend that I have unmolded this cake to get a good picture; also, just pretend that I’ve tasted it.

This is going to my parents’ house for New Years Eve. This is the obligatory Tuesday post. I’ll try to update you all on the fallout if/when I remember.

(The pale spots are from moisture that accumulated on the cake after I covered it in foil. I knew there was a reason that Dorie wanted us to let it come to room temperature first).

Cupcake Party

Posted in food on December 28, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

I made these cupcakes on 12/22. I just didn’t want to spoil all the holiday cheer from my previous post by sharing before Christmas.

Vanilla Bean cupcakes with buttercream icing.

Red velvet cupcakes.

Tuesdays With Dorie – My Favorite Pecan Pie

Posted in food on December 22, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

I was up until 2am baking this, so it best be my favorite pecan pie!

It turned out well. Tastes great. The consistency is a little runny, and the crust is difficult to get out of the pie plate. All of my “slices” of pie look more like a bowlful of pecan mush. But, this website is about ugly food, and I am an ugly dude, and so I must press onward.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had some TWD rewinds. I baked 100 molasses cookies for a cookie exchange, and then 56 Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chipsters for another. I’m baking some cupcakes tonight for a holiday party, and — gasp — this will be the first time I’ve baked a dessert in several years that did not have Dorie’s stamp of approval. I’m sorry, Ms. Greenspan (oooooo). Have I become a monster?

Have a good holiday. I’ll be celebrating as I usually do. Eating lots of cookies. Singing with the Muppets about five gold rings. Certainly not blogging or writing anything of any worth. See you next Tuesday. I hope you all get racecars.

Tuesdays With Dorie – Cafe Volcano Cookies

Posted in food on December 15, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

Cookies without flour or butter? That’s like a cheeseburger without meat or a bun.

Still, these were pretty good. A little sticky. The coffee flavor was a bit strong for my taste, so I’ll probably dial it back if I ever have the motivation to make these again.

I meant to take these to work today, but I left the plate of cookies at home. I’m hoping that I did not leave them on the couch for the dog to attack…

Tuesdays With Dorie – Sablés

Posted in food on December 8, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

These are great. Buttery and crumbly and flaky. I have half a mind to make the Parmesan Sablés next. I think this cookie would be amazing as a savory.

How do you pronounce this word? I had assumed it was “SAY-bulls.” However, there’s that troublesome accent mark above the “e.” “sah-BLAZE?” “say-BLEES?” Help! Help! I’m from America!

Tuesdays With Dorie – Rosy Poached Pear and Pistachio Tart

Posted in food on December 2, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

It’s been a couple of months since there’s been something this time-intensive and work-intensive for a Tuesday. Couple that with an already-busy week (and all of the backbreaking hard work that I’m putting into Wade Bloggs, the world’s premiere Wade Boggs blog), and I almost called it quits.

Then again, I haven’t missed a TWD post since I started this, and I’m certainly not going to blow my streak now.

Turned out well. A little too “wine”-y for me, but I’m also a young gentleman who has never had alcohol outside of baked goods, so…

We had it for dessert. This was the main course.

I love making pizza. The cheese mix is generally 75% fresh mozzarella, and then an even mix of pecorino romano, parmiagiano reggiano, and asiago. This is the dough recipe I like. This is the sauce recipe I like. I rarely put toppings on it because the sauce is so great, but tonight was broccoli and tomato, which is a personal favorite of my fiance. I make pizza at least once a week, and I’ve gained forty pounds since I moved into this apartment about a year ago. Coincidence? No.
