Tuesdays with Dorie – Chocolate Cream Tart

Posted in food on April 28, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

Okay, you guys.  The joke is very funny.  I get it.

It’s 90 degrees here, and you’re having me slave over a hot stove in our poorly-ventilated apartment, air conditioner on the fritz, and for what?

For a chocolatey dessert that won’t quench a single quenchable thing.

Not a quenchable thing.

Don’t get me wrong.  This dessert is nothing short of amazing, and it’s served cold so there’s that.  But where’s the ice cream?  The puddings?  The whatever-doesn’t-make-me-crank-the-ovens-to-400-degreeses?  Get with the program, people.

I christened my brand new food processor, and I like it a lot better than my old one.  Here’s hoping we don’t have any chocolate pudding debacles with this one.

Rachel is engaged.  To me.  If anybody wants to send presents – preferably cookies and/or cakes – please send them to:

Tuesdays With Dorie – Four-Star Chocolate Bread Pudding

Posted in food on April 21, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

What up.

My grand scheme for this week was to work some joke into the post about how “Dorie must have kept her Five-Star Chocolate Bread Pudding to herself, leaving us with this.”  Then you all would have chuckled at my ingenuity, shown my web site to your friends and families, etc.  The end result would be, of course, that the whole world lines up to give me high-fives.

I’m sorry to say that this bread pudding deserves 100% stars.  Sorry, Earth, no joke for you.

Another entry from the guy that manages to make tasty food hideous.  Here’s his latest concoction.

Tuesdays With Dorie – TEN BANANA CREME PIES

Posted in food on April 7, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

Okay, just one banana creme pie.

I went through hell and back to make this pie.  My stand-mixer beaters got bent out of shape in last week’s baking marathon (note to self:  do not use wooden spoons to push dough into moving beaters).  My food processor is kaput (overuse).  I ran all over town to find a functional replacement for these things (er…a cheap one, as dictated by bills).  In the end, I picked up a $15 hand mixer and squeezed the last drops of life out of my food processor.

About ten minutes into doughmaking, I had decided to quit.  Instead, I went against all of Dorie’s dough rules and kneaded the pie crust with my hand, skipping the rolling process, and just pushed it into my pie plate.

I am so glad I persisted.  This was awesome; definitely among my top five Dorie Desserts.  Boner appetit, everyone.

Tuesdays? With Dorie – Coconut Butter Thins.

Posted in food on April 1, 2009 by hoagiefest 2020

Apologies for the lateness.  These were done by Tuesday, I just didn’t blog.

These are my coconut butter thins.

They were great.  They were gobbled up at work.

While I was baking these, Rachel was baking treats for the puppy.

What puppy?

This puppy.

Also, after that, I made some pizza dough from scratch and we ate us some pizza.

What pizza?

This pizza.
